(nee Welch), 77, of West New York, NJ, left this world on October 28, 2020 after a brief illness. Widowed at a young age with five children, our mother returned to school and embarked on her lifelong career as an educator, serving as a teacher in Guttenberg and later as an administrator and principal in the West New York School district, before retiring in 2015. Whether it was kissing a pig, getting slimed, or eating fried worms, she sought out creative ways to inspire her students to embrace the gift of reading - something she was most passionate about.
A never ending source of strength and encouragement, our mother was our anchor. She was witty, clever, tenacious and kind. She was the life of the party, and one of the strongest people to have graced this world. She loved the ocean and fulfilled her dream of having her own place at the Jersey Shore. Her beach house in Sea Bright became the center of our family gatherings, and the place where many happy memories were made.
Predeceased by her husband Captain Richard T. Warnock and her son Richard, Claire leaves behind her devoted daughters - Susan Warnock, Nancy Weiner (Robert), Janet MacFarlane (David), and Karen Warnock (Chris Demarecaux), her sister Jean Lawler and niece Karen Lawler, as well as her three grandchildren -- Angus, Ian and Fiona MacFarlane, whom she loved fiercely and unconditionally.
A party in honor of Claire will be held at a later date.
Even during times of social distancing, anyone who has suffered a loss deserves love and support more than ever before. Let the family know you care by leaving treasured memories, thoughts and prayers in our Online Guestbook.
