(Coco), age 85, of West New York, passed away at home on Sunday, March 15, 2020.
He was born in Rivera, Uruguay, and emigrated to the United States in 1967. He was a long-time employee of the West New York Housing Authority from which he retired in 2006.
Hector was an avid soccer fan who could often be found rooting for Uruguay’s national team, and his two favorite club teams, Peñarol and FC Barcelona. He enjoyed spending time with his family, visiting Atlantic City and making his signature mussel dish.
Hector is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Pereira; his daughters, Mary Zielinski, Stella Witcher and her husband Richard Witcher, and Alice Pereira; his beloved grandchildren, Nicole Griffin and her husband Joe Griffin, Lauren Zielinski, Cristian Witcher, Wesley Witcher, and Camila Pereira; and his dear great-grandchildren Jayden Griffin and Nicolas Griffin. He is also survived by nieces and nephews in the United States and Uruguay.
He is predeceased by his son-in-law, Thomas (Tommy) Zielinski.
As per Hector’s wishes, there will be no memorial services; however, if you would like to honor his memory, please consider donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization he supported regularly.
