was born on December 6, 1926 and passed away peacefully on September 6, 2019. She was a warm and caring woman who came from a long line of proud Italians, in which her spirit and impassioned personality is reflected. Bruna grew up on Unije — an island of 7 square miles in the Adriatic Sea with less than 85 residents year-round. There she met and married her husband Florian before emigrating to the United States in the 1950s during a time of post-war political and economic uncertainty in Italy. By her mid-20s, Bruna had picked up and moved thousands of miles across the Atlantic with her husband to Jackson Heights, Queens.
Bruna was a dressmaker while Florian worked as a carpenter and woodworker for Steinway & Sons. They eventually moved to Eugene, Oregon where they spent the remainder of their years together, becoming proud and loving homeowners for the first time there. Bruna always cherished and talked about their memories there until her last day. When Florian passed in 1983, Bruna moved back to the East Coast where she settled in North Bergen, New Jersey. Bruna adored the town and made it her home, reconnecting with Gaspare Carcich, with whom she spent the next 35 years. She stayed a loyal member of the community until relocating to Danbury, CT to be near her cousin, Doreen, in 2018. Through every moment, Bruna had an incredible wit and sense of humor that will always be remembered.
Bruna is predeceased by her husband, Florian, her parents, Joseph and Maria, her sister, Maria, and her partner, Gaspare.
Memorial contributions may be made her favorite charities: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or Paralyzed Veterans of America. Flowers may be sent to Vainieri Funeral Home.
